Understanding Uganda safari costs starts with choosing the right safari style, duration and experiences for your trip. Safari prices in Uganda vary depending on accommodation level, number of travelers, season, transportation, park fees, permits and activities such as gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking. Use the price ranges below as a practical starting point, then request an itemised Uganda safari quotation based on your travel dates and preferred itinerary.

These Uganda safari prices are indicative planning figures rather than live inventory rates. Lodge availability, seasonal accommodation rates, gorilla and chimpanzee permits, domestic or international flights, fuel costs and currency exchange rates can change. For an accurate Uganda safari cost, your final quotation should be dated and based on confirmed availability for your chosen travel dates.

A daily safari rate is not the same as your total trip cost. Fixed costs such as a gorilla permit or a domestic flight can materially change the average daily figure.

_______

The cost of a Uganda safari depends on your travel style, safari duration, accommodation, transport, activities and the number of people traveling together. There is no single Uganda safari price because a private gorilla trekking holiday in Bwindi costs very differently from a budget wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park or a luxury Uganda safari combining gorillas, chimpanzees and savannah wildlife.

For most travelers, the best way to understand how much a Uganda safari costs is to break the total price into its main components. Accommodation, private 4x4 transport, professional guiding, gorilla and chimpanzee permits, park fees, activities, meals and the length of your itinerary all influence the final Uganda safari cost per person.

$50–1,500+/ night

Accommodation

Lodge category is one of the clearest price drivers. Budget camps, comfortable lodges, boutique properties and luxury safari lodges create different nightly costs. Location matters too: a property close to a trekking sector or wildlife area can reduce transfer time and improve the experience.

$150+/day

Transport & guide

Private 4x4 transport, professional guiding, fuel and route distance form a major part of the safari operating cost. The cost per person changes with party size because fixed vehicle and guide costs are shared among travellers.

Permits & park activities

$40–1,500+/ Experience

Gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking and other regulated activities can add significant fixed costs. Park entry, boat activities and specialist experiences also need to be included when comparing packages.

Can reduce unnecessary logistics

Time & route

A longer safari adds nights, but can sometimes reduce the average cost of fixed logistics. A poorly routed short safari can be surprisingly expensive because a large share of the holiday is spent on transfers.

A US$500 quote with permits, activities and transfers excluded can ultimately cost more than a US$650 package with the major operational components included.

That is the key message your Uganda Safari Costs page should own:
Don't compare the headline price. Compare what the price actually buys.

This also gives you excellent opportunities to target “Uganda safari cost per day,” “Uganda safari prices,” “Uganda safari packages cost,” “how much does a Uganda safari cost,” “Uganda safari cost for couples,” and “Uganda safari cost for 7 days” naturally without keyword stuffing.

Travel style

_______

Uganda Safari Cost by Travel Style

Your Uganda safari cost depends largely on your travel style, accommodation standard, transport, level of private guiding and the experiences you include. Whether you are planning a budget Uganda safari, a comfortable mid-range journey or a luxury Uganda safari, choosing your travel style first makes it easier to build the right itinerary and control your overall safari budget.

US$850+

Best for: High-end bespoke journeys

Important distinction

Uganda safari cost per day can mean the operational land rate or your entire trip divided by the number of days. A gorilla permit, domestic flight or airport transfer is a fixed cost and can make the average daily price appear higher.

_______

Gorilla trekking can transform your safari budget.

Uganda's official UWA information confirms that gorilla trekking takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Treks can take roughly two to seven hours and include one hour of observation with a habituated family.

$800

Standard foreign non-resident gorilla trekking permit

$1,500

Standard foreign non-resident Habituation permit

Your complete gorilla safari budget also needs accommodation, transport, meals, guiding, park logistics and any optional porter or community experiences. For 2026–27, verify the current UWA tariff applicable to the exact tracking date before payment.

_______

Chimpanzee Tracking & Uganda Wildlife Safari Costs

Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda offers an unforgettable opportunity to explore rainforest habitats and observe wild chimpanzees in their natural environment. For travelers planning a Uganda wildlife safari, Kibale National Park is one of the country's premier destinations for chimpanzee trekking, and it combines naturally with Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and other western Uganda safari destinations. Your Uganda chimpanzee safari cost depends on the tracking permit, accommodation, private 4x4 transport, professional guide, meals, park fees, number of nights and the other experiences included in your itinerary.

$300

Standard foreign Non-Resident Chimpanzee permit

$400

Standard foreign non-resident chimpanzee Habituation permit

When comparing chimpanzee tracking prices in Uganda, look beyond the permit price and consider the complete safari cost. A well-planned itinerary can combine chimpanzee tracking with game drives, boat safaris, forest walks and cultural experiences, creating a richer Uganda wildlife safari without unnecessary transfers. Whether you are looking for a budget chimpanzee safari in Uganda, a comfortable mid-range journey or a luxury Uganda chimpanzee trekking experience, we design the route around your priorities, travel dates and preferred level of comfort.

Destination economics

_______

Uganda Safari Cost by National Park

Uganda safari cost by national park varies according to more than park entry fees. Accommodation, transport distance, safari activities, number of nights, lodge category and the route you choose all influence the final Uganda safari price. A park with lower daily costs is not necessarily better value if reaching it requires long transfers or additional nights.

From Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga for gorilla trekking to Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Kidepo Valley and Lake Mburo, each destination has a different cost structure. Understanding these differences helps you compare Uganda safari packages and prices more accurately and build an itinerary that balances wildlife experiences, comfort, travel time and budget.

The smartest way to control your Murchison Falls safari cost is not simply to choose the cheapest lodge. It is to design an efficient route that gives you more time experiencing the park.

_______

Murchison Falls National Park Cost

A safari to Murchison Falls is shaped by more than park fees. Accommodation, private 4x4 transport, professional guiding, game drives, the Victoria Nile boat safari and the distance from Kampala or Entebbe all contribute to the final Uganda safari price.

Murchison Falls combines spectacular savannah wildlife with the dramatic Victoria Nile, making it one of the strongest choices for a classic Uganda wildlife safari. Because the park lies in northern Uganda, road transfers can represent a meaningful part of the overall budget.

US$200 –350+/Day

Practical accommodation, private road safari and essential guided experiences.

US$350 –550+/Day

Comfortable lodge, private 4x4, professional guide and core safari activities.

US$550 –900+/Day

Premium lodge, private safari vehicle and a more personalised experience.

US$900 –1,500+/Day

Exclusive accommodation, premium logistics and highly personalised safari service.

_______

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Cost

A Bwindi Impenetrable National Park safari cost is shaped by more than the gorilla trekking permit. Your accommodation, private 4x4 transport, professional guide, trekking sector, number of nights, meals and the distance from Kampala or Entebbe all influence the final Uganda safari price.

Bwindi is Uganda's premier destination for mountain gorilla trekking, combining an extraordinary rainforest experience with luxury lodges, dramatic highland scenery and intimate encounters with habituated gorilla families. For most travelers, accommodation, transport and the length of the safari have a major influence on the overall cost of a Uganda gorilla safari.

US$250–380+/Day

Comfortable guesthouse or budget lodge, private road transport and essential guided experiences.

US$380–550+/Day

A comfortable forest lodge, private 4x4 safari vehicle, professional guide and well-planned transfers.

US$550–900+/Day

Premium accommodation near the forest, private safari vehicle, experienced guide and a more personalised Bwindi gorilla trekking experience.

US$900–1,500+/Day

Exceptional forest accommodation, private logistics, personalised guiding and premium service designed around a seamless luxury Uganda gorilla safari.

Gorilla trekking permits are excluded from all prices in this cost guide. The daily rates below cover the safari logistics and services indicated for each travel style. Your final Bwindi gorilla safari cost will increase once the applicable gorilla trekking permit is added.

Ababa Uganda Safaris

The daily safari rates above do not include chimpanzee trekking permits or other activity permits. Permit costs are added separately to your safari quotation based on the activities you choose, the number of travellers and the applicable rates at the time of booking.

_______

Kibale National Park Cost

A safari to Kibale National Park is shaped by more than park fees. Your final Kibale National Park safari cost depends on accommodation, private 4x4 transport, professional guiding, chimpanzee trekking permits, forest activities and the route you take from Kampala, Entebbe or another Ugandan safari destination.

Known as Uganda's primate capital, Kibale is one of the country's best destinations for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda, with opportunities to encounter habituated chimpanzees in their natural forest habitat. The park can also be combined with Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or other destinations to create a longer Uganda wildlife safari.

US$200–350+/Day

Practical accommodation, private road transport and guided forest experiences, with the overall price depending on the number of travellers and activities included.

US$350 –550+/Day

Comfortable lodge accommodation, private 4x4 safari vehicle, professional guide and key Kibale experiences

US$550 –900+/Day

Premium forest lodge, private safari vehicle, expert guiding and a more personalised Kibale chimpanzee trekking experience.

US$900 –1,500+/Day

Exclusive accommodation, premium private logistics, personalised guiding and a highly tailored luxury Uganda safari experience.

Uganda Safari Cost by Destination

_______

Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Cost

A Queen Elizabeth National Park safari cost depends on more than park entry fees. Your accommodation, private 4x4 safari vehicle, professional guide, game drives, the Kazinga Channel boat safari, number of nights and transfers from Kampala or Entebbe all influence the final Uganda safari price.

Located in western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the country's most accessible and diverse wildlife destinations. A safari here can combine classic African game drives with a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, elephants, buffalo and abundant birdlife gather along the water.

Because Queen Elizabeth is often combined with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale Forest and other western Uganda destinations, your overall safari cost can also depend on how efficiently the itinerary is routed.

US$200–350+/Day

Practical accommodation, private road transport and essential guided safari experiences for travellers focused on value.

US$350–550+/Day

Comfortable lodge accommodation, private 4x4 safari vehicle, professional guide, game drives and key park experiences.

US$550–900+/Day

Premium lodge accommodation, private safari vehicle, personalised guiding and a more exclusive Queen Elizabeth safari experience.

US$900–1,500+/Day

Exceptional accommodation, premium logistics, private guiding and highly personalised safari arrangements.

Transparent pricing

_______

What Is Included in a Uganda Safari?

When comparing Uganda safari packages, it is important to understand exactly what is included in the price. A professional Uganda safari quotation should clearly separate inclusions from exclusions, covering everything from accommodation and transport to park fees, activities and professional guiding. This transparency makes it easier to compare Uganda safari costs and choose the right package for your budget and travel style.

Before booking a Uganda safari tour, always check whether your quotation includes accommodation, meals, private or shared 4x4 safari transport, an English-speaking driver-guide, national park entry fees, game drives, boat trips, permits and airport transfers. Any additional costs, such as international flights, visas, travel insurance, alcoholic drinks, personal expenses or optional activities, should be clearly stated as exclusions.

Usually Included

  • Accommodation according to itinerary
  • Meals according to lodge plan
  • Private safari vehicle where quoted
  • Professional driver-guide
  • Fuel and route logistics
  • Specified park entry fees
  • Game drives listed in itinerary
  • Specified boat or forest activities
  • Airport transfers when included

Often Excluded

  • International flights
  • Visa fees
  • Travel insurance
  • Personal purchases
  • Tips and gratuities
  • Drinks outside package inclusions
  • Optional activities
  • Unspecified domestic flights
  • Permits unless specifically listed

Uganda Safari Planning

_______

Safari Cost by Traveller Type

The cost of a Uganda safari can vary significantly depending on the number of travelers, accommodation preferences and whether you choose a private or shared safari. Understanding these differences helps you plan a Uganda safari budget that matches your travel style without compromising on the experience.

For private safaris, traveling as a couple, family or small group can often reduce the per-person Uganda safari cost because expenses such as the 4x4 safari vehicle, professional guide and driver are shared among travelers. Solo travelers, meanwhile, usually pay more per person because these fixed costs are not divided among a group.

Two travellers often share a private vehicle and guide, creating a higher per-person operational cost but greater privacy.

Room configuration, children's ages, vehicle requirements and activity suitability can significantly affect pricing.

Solo travellers generally pay a higher per-person rate of the fixed vehicle and guide cost unless joining a group or sharing selected transport.

Four or more travellers can spread private vehicle and guide costs across more people, often improving the per-person value.

_______

Common Mistakes When Comparing Safari Prices

One of the biggest mistakes is comparing headline daily prices without comparing inclusions. A quote may exclude permits, park fees, meals, transfers or activities.

Another common mistake is comparing different accommodation standards. A basic camp and a premium lodge can both be described simply as “accommodation”, but they produce very different experiences and operating costs.

Private or shared?

Check whether the vehicle and guide are exclusive to your preference.

Permit secured?

Confirm whether gorilla or chimpanzee permits are included & reserved.

What is excluded?

Request for an itemised quotation of the trip rather than assuming inclusions.

How much driving?

A cheap itinerary becomes poor value if too much time is spent on the road.

Highly recommended We had a wonderful experience with Jonathan. He welcomed us at the airport and took great care of us from the moment we arrived until the end of our trip. The selection of hotels was impeccable, and the route he designed was perfectly planned. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable about wildlife and went the extra mile to make sure we saw lions and all of the Big Five during our visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park. He was always attentive, patient, and eager to make our experience unforgettable. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide — highly recommended!

Exceptional experience, enriching and truly unforgettable. From the moment we landed we received a warm welcome. Jonathan was friendly and readily available to answer any queries throughout our trip. He was incredibly accommodating with our requests to visit schools, residences ensuring that we achieved everything we wanted from the trip. We had a great time with Jonathan and driver Isaac. Jonathan was very funny and very knowledgeable he became part of the family and the time just flew whilst we were there, we felt safe at all times. The food at each venue catered for all our needs. Definitely leant a lot on this trip. Just need to be aware that food ordered in restaurants do take a long time as they make it from scratch so if pushed for time might be advisable to pre order. We had unforgettable holiday and this company went above and beyond to make every moment special. I would recommend them to anyone.

.gorilla trek Our KQ flight was horribly delayed. From 2.30 pm to arriving @ almost 3 am the following day. Jonathan kindly arranged for airport pick at this early hour of day and even rescheduled our departure for bwindi so we could get some rest. That was very accommodating.the drive to bwindi was a long drive -11 hrs- n he informed hotel of our late arrival. The lodge he chose for us was good and comfortable. However the vehicle for transporti g us could be better as it was quite hot without air conditioning. Gorilla trek was good but tough. Overall Ababa safaris were very accommodating. I wouldrecommend them. The hotel in Kampala- Speke hotel leaves a lot to be desired

Such a wonderful experience!! My family and I contacted Jonathan to help us plan our first Murchison Falls safari. Jonathan arranged our transport from Kampala, with a stop at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary and guided game drives through Murchison falls. Ronnie, our professional driver and guide, was very knowledgeable and paid close attention to details to make us comfortable. He met with us a day before takeoff to answer any outstanding questions and recommended a time for us to set off to avoid any traffic. His experience made our trip even more enjoyable because we knew what to expect for entry fees into the park, where to stop to use clean washrooms, eat good food, and also what side of the boat cruise to sit on for the best views! We saw lions, elephants, giraffes, job, rhinos, buffaloes and many other animals. We would definitely go with them for our next safari in Uganda! They had great communication, value for money, professionalism, knowledge of the industry and were very reliable.

A must-hire company! Punctual, professional, great communication. We used Ababa Safaris for a trip from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park. I would HIGHLY recommend! Our driver picked us up in a large safari vehicle with a pop up roof. The driver was very punctual and had excellent communication while preparing for the trip and during the trip. Ronnie took us to a nice restaurant for a rest stop that had clean bathrooms and good food. He was friendly with many people we met along the way at the Rhino Sanctuary, on the safari trails, and at our chosen lodging. It felt as though he had good connections with people, which we took as a good sign. Ronnie was very knowledgeable about the best places to see the animals and gave us a great safari experience. As the person in the family who does much of the planning, it was a very enjoyable experience to hand all of that over to Ababa and really get to enjoy myself.

Animals and beautiful nature in Uganda and Rwanda From being picked-up from Entebbe airport in the middle of the night until the drop-off eleven days later in Kigali it was a perfect tour. Jonathan, our guide, and the driver Moses was a perfect team - very friendly, knowledgable and always in time. We visited Entebbe for a tour through the botanical gardens and the zoo, did safaris and boat trips in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth NP and did trekkings to the chimpazees in Kibale and to the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. The primates are a must visit when you travel to this region. It's expensive but worth every dollar. The safari parks are of course not as rich in animals as for example the Masai Mara. But they are much cheaper, there are much lesser tourists and nevertheless it doesn't become boring regarding animal sightings. We saw a lot of different antelopes, beautiful giraffes, lions, many elephants, buffalos, a lot of hippos and crocodiles and much more. The choice of hotels was very good, simple and cheap where there was only a short overnight stay and a bit more expensive where it was worth to spend the money for staying close to the places of interest, e.g. close to the starting point for primate trekkings or in the middle of QENP and Murchison NP for not loosing game-drive-time.
